The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a armed takeover in last fall and given more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This included trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a public vigil that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the arrest, the judge said data from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

His son wrote on online platforms on last Friday: Will you battle for your country, or see it all from your mobile device there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could "pray for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with tracking devices.

They also requested that he be permitted to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he demanded ongoing care for lung conditions and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of orchestrating a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the national vote to his left-wing rival, President Lula.
